Tia Wheatley, MSW LICSW
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
My name is Tia Wheatley and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker that offers individual counseling to adults (18+). I graduated with my Masters of Social Work in 2021 from Arizona State University and have been practicing as a therapist since; however, I have been in the social work field since 2018.
I have experience working with various populations - adolescents, young adults, older adults and domestic violence survivors, which have provided me invaluable opportunities to work with a variety of presenting issues such as anxiety, phobias, depression, mood disorders/bipolar disorder, managing ADHD symptoms, navigating life transitions, safety planning, grief/loss and much more! As I am still learning more about myself as a clinician, I am finding that I am extremely passionate about working with older adults (65+).
I am skilled and trained in the following evidence-based modalities that may be used in our therapy sessions to help you reach your goals: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I am a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional and Certified Grief Informed Professional. Despite my training, I believe that one of the most important aspects of a therapeutic relationship is building rapport and feeling as though this is your safe space. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to share your story and what you aim to focus on in therapy by being an empathetic listener. As a clinical social worker, my approach includes looking at different systems in your life (i.e physical health, interpersonal relationships, community, etc.) and how this is impacting your presenting issue. It is also important to me to dedicate some of our time together to look at your physical health/biological functioning and how this may be playing a role in your mental health.
Taking this first step is filled with so much vulnerability, so thank you for being here and doing this for you. I would be honored to walk alongside you on your path towards healing!
